Local SEO audit

Enter a business's homepage or contact page and see what search engines read about it: the name, address and phone, whether they match what visitors see, and the details that decide a local search.

What the audit checks

7 local checks, on top of the basics every page needs.

  • LocalBusiness markup with a name, an address and a phone, in the most specific type there is.
  • One phone number: the one in the markup is the one the page asks people to call.
  • The address on the page, not only in the markup, where visitors and search engines can both read it.
  • Click to call: the number is a tel: link, so a phone dials it in one tap.
  • The city in the title, because people searching nearby type the place.
  • Opening hours in the markup.
  • A link to Google Maps or an embedded map, for directions in one tap.

Fixes that matter most

  1. 1

    Make the details agree everywhere

The same name, address and phone on the site, in the markup and on the profile, written the same way. A leftover old number is the most common mismatch.

  2. 2

    Add the markup once, sitewide

A LocalBusiness block in the site template covers every page. Most SEO plugins for WordPress, such as Yoast Local SEO and Rank Math, can write it for you.

  3. 3

    Build it for the phone

Tap to call, tap for directions, and a page that loads fast on mobile data. That is where most people find a local business.

Questions about local SEO audits

What is a local SEO audit?

A check of what decides whether a business shows up when people nearby search for it: the business details on its website and in its markup, whether they agree with each other and with the Google Business Profile, and whether the page works on a phone. This tool covers the website side; the profile, reviews and listings are checked where they live.

Is this local SEO audit free?

Yes. It needs no account and no card, and the full report on the same page is free while Scoreling is in early access.

What is NAP consistency?

NAP stands for name, address and phone. Search engines trust a business whose details are written the same way on its site, in its markup, on its Google Business Profile and in directories. A different phone number or an old address in one of them is a contradiction they have to resolve.

Why does my business need LocalBusiness markup?

It states the name, address, phone and hours in a form search engines read without guessing, and it connects the website to the business on the map. Use the most specific type there is, such as Dentist, Plumber or Restaurant, rather than the generic LocalBusiness.

Can it check my Google Business Profile?

No. The profile, its reviews and your listings on other sites are not on your website, so a page check cannot see them. Compare them by hand with the name, address and phone this tool finds in your markup.

I run an agency. Can I send this to clients?

Yes. An agency account puts your logo on the full report, adds your own introduction and a button to book a call, and turns an audit form on your site into leads.
